What is the Benefit of Whitelisting Conversion Pixel IP Addresses?
If you are using server-to-server tracking with Postback URLs, you can whitelist your Advertiser’s IP address(es) that will be sending the Postback URL to CAKE. Whitelisting IP Addresses in CAKE for the purpose of conversion tracking provides two main benefits:
Preventing fraud by only tracking conversions from the whitelisted IP addresses and ignoring all others
Increasing the limit of 8 conversion pixel calls per second per IP address to 20 conversion pixel calls
How to Add IP Addresses to the Whitelist
To add your advertiser’s server IP address(es) to the Pixel Whitelist, follow these steps:
Click the Advertiser main tab
Click the Pixel Whitelist sub-tab
Click the Add button
Select the Advertiser from the dropdown
Select an Offer Name or All Offers for that Advertiser
Input the IP Start and IP End for a range of IP Addresses or input the same IP Address in both fields if there is only one address
Tick the Active checkbox
Type in a Note for record-keeping
Click the Update button
Alternatively, you can access the Pixel Whitelist from the Setup page. To do so, follow these steps:
Click the Setup main tab
Click the Pixel Whitelist sub-tab
Note:
If you are using a Global Advertiser Conversion Pixel you must select “All Offers” from the Offer dropdown when adding or editing a Pixel Whitelist.
How to Track Conversions from Whitelisted IPs Only
To track conversions from your advertiser’s whitelisted IP addresses only and block all incoming pixel requests from non-whitelisted IPs, follow these steps:
Open the Offer card
Click on the Attribution tab from the Home tab
Tick the Conversions from Whitelist Only box
Click Save
Note:
This setting should only be enabled for Offers using a Postback URL or Postback/Fallback conversion tracking setup and have a whitelisted IP address(es) for your advertiser's server.
FAQ
What happens to the conversion pixel requests that come in from non-whitelisted IPs when I have Conversions from Whitelist Only enabled?
If CAKE receives a pixel request from a non-whitelisted IP address, the pixel call will be ignored and a disposition of “IP Not Whitelisted” will be displayed in the Pixel Log. Since the conversion pixel would be ignored, your revenue nor the affiliate’s payout would be recorded.
What happens if my advertiser sends more than 8 pixel calls to CAKE without their IP being added to the Pixel Whitelist?
If CAKE receives more than 8 pixels calls in the same second from the same IP address, one or more of the conversion pixel calls will be ignored and a disposition of “IP Over Max Connections Per Second” will be displayed in the Pixel Log. Since the conversion pixel would be ignored, your revenue nor the affiliate’s payout would be recorded.
