This article will cover the following:
- An overview of the logic behind CAKE's redirect strategy
A Normal Redirect
Under normal circumstances, a user clicking on a CAKE Unique Link will redirect to the Offer Link
Offer Redirect / Vertical Redirect
Some circumstances will cause a user to be redirected to an offer redirect and up the chain of redirects as opposed to going directly to the global redirect.
During these situations the user will be redirected to the campaign-level offer redirect unless one is not present in which case CAKE will look to the offer contract redirect then the vertical redirect.
If none of these are present the user will be redirected to the global redirect.
Global Redirect
Some circumstances will cause a user to be redirected directly to the global redirect.
CAKE does not charge for click traffic sent to the global redirect.
Unique Circumstances - Geo Retargeting
Normally a geo target mismatch is a reason why a user would be redirected to the global redirect. ? This occurs when a user from outside of the allowed countries attempts to access an offer.
However, country-specific redirects can be applied which would then constitute an offer redirect instead.
Setting Geo Target Redirect for all non-allowed countries
GeoTarget mismatch traffic can be redirected to a universal offer by going to your GeoTargeting section on your Offer card and specifying your redirect offer.
Unique Circumstances - Tier (Offer Contract) Redirect
When using Affiliate Tiers you can specify a default redirect offer for each tier's offer contract. To do so go to your tiers and click in the redirect offer column for that tier's offer contract. You will will be able to select a redirect offer.
As demonstrated above, a campaign-level offer redirect will take precedence over an offer contract redirect. However, if there is no campaign-level offer redirect, it will look to see whether there is a redirect offer specified for that offer contract.
Unique Circumstances - Confirmation Page URL
Normally users who return to an offer within the defined click cookie days after converting will be redirected to the global redirect.
However, CAKE will reference the Thank You Link URL first before redirecting a user to the global redirect. The Thank You Link is now called the Confirmation Page Link, but still located in the same location, just below the Offer Link.
Unique Circumstances - Creative Offer Link
If you have a specific offer link associated with a creative you can place that on the Creative card. When a user clicks on that creative they will be directed to that offer link landing page.
(Please note that the "Allow Link Override" is not referencing the offer link in this area. "Allow link override" has to do with AdTags and using the ckm_rdr parameter in your links.)
Unique Circumstances - Upsells (3rd Party Offers)
Normally, users who return to an offer within the defined click cookie days after converting will be redirected to the global redirect.
However, CAKE will reference upsells first. If there is not an upsell CAKE will reference the Thank You Link mentioned in the previous step.
The upsell is unique in that it is an offer that can be tracked and a conversion can occur.
